We're a new and racially diverse group of busy women, so we try to keep organized! We only meet every other month, so our list is shorter than a lot of book clubs' lists.

Here are the books we have read so far:

August: REASONABLE JOY by Lauren Sanders-Jones
October: BLUE SHOE by Anne LaMott

Here is our 2006 list:
January: A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES by John Kennedy Toole
March: ON BEAUTY by Zadie Smith
May: SISTERS OF THE YAM: BLACK WOMEN AND SELF-RECOVERY by bell hooks
July: GOOD GRIEF by Lolly Winston
September: WHILE I WAS GONE by Sue MIller
November: THE LOVELY BONES by Alice Sebold

The Novel Chicks has a great reading list! You make me want to recommend that we meet more often at the Laura O. Book Club.

Please consider adding REASONABLE JOY to your list some day!

Hello Laura:

I will consider adding your suggestion - but not until 2007! The Novel Chicks Book Club voted lastnight our picks for 2006 - here they are as follows:

Brick Lane
The Spiral Garden
To the Lighthouse
Good Omens
A Widow for a Year
Prodigal Summer
The Hours
No Great Mischief
Tear this Heart Out
Anna Karenina

We often buy reading guides from this canadian company called bookclub in a box. Their guides are awesome, and are extremely detailed - usually about 20-30 pages, with little related goodies. Consider checking them out at http://www.bookclubinabox.ca
