I'm so glad this book is being read here as it was one of my top favorite books I read last year, I could not put it down!

My favorite 3 books last year were SF, Eat, Pray, Love and Devil In The White City.

Zorro, will you be moving the discussion questions here from bookbuddies or are we going to need to participate over there?

I've started and am at Chapter 8, page 40. I'm finding myself getting very anxious for these people that are spending so much time packing their valuables before heading out of town. I want to shout at them all to JUST LEAVE IT, already.

How sad is it,when you know what their immediate future is and they don't have a clue A few years ago,I would have been like that. Gathering all my stuff. Now I'm like my Dad. It's stuff!

It is like the reader is able to look into a crystal ball with this story. You know what is going to happen, but can do nothing to stop it or protect them.

I'm still stuck on the fact that she was able to write this while the invasion was going on. She knew her life was in jeopardy, because by he time the Germans were inFance it was well known that the Jews, gypsys and etc were being picked up and vanishing.I don't know if I would be that clearheaded.

I am really enjoying this read. I like how Irene N. chooses her words and creates her descriptions of locations, and characters.

I like the mix of characters she has chosen to develop, I like how in each new chapter she continues the saga of these characters, it keeps me on my toes jumping from character to character.

In the first chapter I enjoyed how she told us readers how the river Seine is so much a part of Paris. How it reflects the activities, and passing of days.

I wonder how much cleaner the river was in those years, to be able to reflect so much. I have twice spent time in Paris, and I found the river to be dull and dirty. But yet the Parisians do love their river, and I know I too would... after all it is a blessing to have such a force of nature in a large city.

I will ask them if they want me to bring the discussion over there periodically. Then I'll let you know what they say.

How are you all doing with your reading of Suite Francaise? I am stalled due to busy life right now. I will read more this weekend. Anyone finished? Book Buddies did not respond to my question about whether I should take the discussion over there. They have not started the discussion yet. They just say Week 1, Week 2, etc. So I am going to post our discussion schedule here.

I am currently on Chapter 22, I really like the way that we are building the characters and up to the events. I know what is going to happen, however, each time this story is told I feel so anxious and I can't wait to hear it from yet another perspective.

It really made me frustrated to read about all the packing of the good silver and china and strapping mattresses to the cars. But, I really don't think that anyone thought that this could happen to them. Would I have a similar mentality? If I am told to evacuate my home because of some unseen threat, would I try to take my valuables or would I just walk away?

You know, we have their example to consider, but no for sure I would not take the silver...and we wouldn't have to polish it anymore!

I would take guns and fishing equipment for food, some clothes, some toiletries, some food and water, some pictures of the family, and I would think "we'll be back in a few weeks"...and I would be wrong.

We would go west to the Davis Mountains or to Big Bend or the Guadalupe Mountains. We would find a lot of Texans there (we would all be thinking the same thing), so then we would turn south and into Mexico and get lost down there where we could not be found by anyone.
