Ok ignore that other post. I'm new at this and apparently an idiot. Anyway,
Has anyone read the new romantic thriller Dark Canvas by Jody Summers?
It's about a woman who comes up with the idea to mix the ashes of the deceased with paint to do tribute paintings then starts getting images from the subjects of her work. It's a fun read. www.jodysummersbooks.com

Welcome Flyboy, Sounds like a book I might like to read. Just curious with the name your going by--are you a pilot? Reason I ask is that all my family are involved in aviation. Ramona

Ok First off I meant I was an idiot because my first post was entitled "Flyboy" not Dark Canvas. I thought that was what went there. DUH!
And it is a fun read. I'd love to tell you some of the plot twists but.... Hey it starts out in the French Quarter though. I loved that imagery. And yes Ramona I am a pilot. Private one but have been for a loooooong time. Give me anything that gets off the ground.
Hey Flyboy, What did you learn to fly in? My hubby taught me to fly 31 yrs ago--learned primarily in a Piper Warrior and Cessna 172. Did you check out the Sun 'n Fun Fly-In Aviation Event photo album I posted? It's got some pics from when I was down there week before last. I'll post a few more pics with airplanes for you. I have the Private license, but my 27 yr old son has through ATP & is a flight instructor & will soon be building time in a Citation. Son also has a business in home theatre equipment. Hubby now works for FAA. Ramona

I learned in a 150 then a 172 and interestingly enough I took my private check ride on 7/7/77 Have had a Cherokee 6 and a Lance since then but havent been flying in a couple of years. still working in that industry though.
Hey Flyboy, Unfortunately, I don't do too much flying anymore, but I'm very actively involved in the promotion of aviation safety with my husband. When my hubby worked in general aviation, we always used the airplanes at cost or just for fuel. He was a flight instructor & corporate pilot so we flew anything from the little Tomahawks to the Citations. Of course, I didn't fly the Citation, but I did get a lot of right seat time in a King Air. Hubby was Flight Instructor of the Year for the United States back in 1977. BTW, I got my private 9/18/77 so we learned the same year. Hubby gave me a choice between flying lessons or a microwave oven for our anniversary so naturally I chose the flying lessons. Of course, I got the microwave for Christmas. LOL! He now works for the FAA in FL--went to work for them 18 yrs ago so he'd have retirement. We owned a Pitts Special for about 5 yrs when he was flying airshows. I do miss the flying, but we're talking about flying with my son & his fiance' down to the Bahamas or Keys some time in the near future. I'm a teacher of students with special needs, but took some time off about 3 yrs ago & haven't felt the urge to go back. I really enjoy reading here with these great people. Oh, btw, I have been to Oshkosh. We flew two Cherokee Warriors from MS up there one year (hubby flying one, me the other) with five Aviation Explorer Scouts & had a blast. Have you been to Oshkosh or Sun 'n Fun? What do you do in the industry? It's funny cause the aviation world is so small, we could have crossed paths somewhere.

Hi Ramona, yes I made it to Oshkosh years ago. Flew in. WOW what an experience that was. they were landing us three at a time per runway on two perpindicular runways. I've never seen anything like it. But apparently they've never had a mid air....only a couple of planes run out of fuel and fall off into Fond Du Lac...lol It was an experience I'll never forget. Everyone should experience Oshkosh at least once in their lives even if they have to drive to get there.
Hey Flyboy, I agree everyone should experience Oshkosh at least once. That was my first & only time to land with full power--all I could think about was getting those two teenagers in the airplane with me on the ground safely. LOL! If you haven't been to Sun 'n Fun, you really should try to go at least once as well. It takes place every April. I'll post the link where you can view the Finale to this year's show later on when I have time. Ramona

Oh my gosh! I just read the forward to Dark Canvas, which I hadn't done before, and there really IS someone out there painting with the ashes of the dead! Can you imagine having a painting on your wall with your mom's ashes in it?
