Today I bought a pretty little notebook to list the books I want to read instead of going out and buying anymore. Actually, next year I want to go book free, just for one year and as we are moving, that would make a lot of sense. Someone suggested in keeping a book journal, and perhaps some of you are! So that's what I did today, my new stradegy! And to not have this overfilled bookcase! LOL!

I keep a book diary of what I've already read. I have authors sign it when I meet them. They LOVE that!
It helps me keep track of not only what I've read but what I thought of it. You know when you forget the plot or a character's name....and I've had fun w/ this. Just started Vol II!
I went a whole entire year w/out buying books as a New Year's Resolution and it was sooooo hard!! But, i did it! I've had a hard time lately trying not to buy books so I can finish what's on the shelves and that's been a struggle even without a resolution!
There are so many interesting books out, I would have an endless list. Journaling about what I've read keeps it more manageable... Roll Eyes

I have small piles of books all over the place. This is a great idea!

That is a great thing you do with author's signing your book diary. And you are right, one can forget so many things from reading. I feel pretty good about not buying any books next year. And by keeping a book journal of what I've read since '03 and books I want to read after next year, it's kind of a neat thing to do.

It's been quiet so far, no new books that have caught my eye except:
Skeletons of the Feast

The Story of Edgar Sawtelle

The Guernsey Literary and Potatoe Peel Pie Society

have sparked my interest this past summer! Now to fit the time in to read them!

Elizabeth George had a new book out, it always takes a couple of years for her to write one of her novels. This one is called Careless in Red, it's a mystery, also check out the Lynley mysteries on PBS Masterpiece Theater, (based on her books). I love her writing, and her books never disappoint! Like P.D. James, excellent!

I'm still reading Outlander for now, and it's 800 plus pages!

Had to start another In Death book of course!

I have over 500 books on my to read list! Eeker Whenever I see a book that looks remotely interesting I write it down and what it is about. Looking back I see some that don't appeal to me as much, but they are still on the list. Wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings now. Big Grin Tea

Wow, 500 books, that's impressive, that would take you say 10 years to read, if you read 50 books a year at a book a week? I don't think I know of 500 books I want to read! I hope you get to read some of them soon, BG!

Last night i was cleaning my bookshelf and almost had a mini heart attack. I have over 100 books on my shelf and now i'm thinking for every 10 books i read i can only buy 1. It freaked hubby out.

Dee, what freaked your hubby out? That you had 100 books or that you're thinking of limiting yourself to books you buy?

Dee,
I have about 100 books on my bookshelf, and one day, hubby asked me, why don't I get rid of the ones I read. I got real quiet. And then he looked at me and said you mean, you've not read any of these books yet? The look on his face was "freaked out".
I read all the time and so he doesn't say anything now. I think he's proud that I read so many books. Give it time, Dee, give it time. LOL

Hi Katherine,

I think the 100 books on the shelf freaked him out. I can't read that fast. He knows i can't go that long without buying a book. I can't hold myself back when i see something i want to read.

Dee,

It's ok, you are amongst book lover's, no need to explain. I LOVE buying a new book! I think it's the same rush, when a weathy shopaholic buys a pair of Manalo Blaniks.
