As some of you are aware there is talk about writting a story where we can all participate. There will be a few ground rules to help us along so we don't get too confused. I was hoping that someone else would start it but I had one of those days and just went ahead on my own. Feel free to add to the story, weather it be 1 or 2 sentences or a whole wack of em. Just thought it would be a cool idea.

1. Separate thread
2. Strictly story on the thread. Which means no chit chat.
3. Set number of pages or time line
4. "Someday" in the title so we know it's ours?
5. Copy and paste "just" the last couple of sentences from previous post.
5. If by chance you should post at the same time as some one else, who ever is the closest to the last post wins. You must delete your post.

Okay this is our first attempt and I am sure i have missed something important. Here goes nothing.

Oh I did miss something. The time frame. Heck if I know. What say 1 week from today. The story has to come to an end.

They were just 3 old men now, sitting together on the front porch gazing at the lake. All was calm. "Fish jumped"said Gene. "Yep saw that one, musta been a 3lber" replied Phil. "You two can't see the tip of your nose let alone a 3lber from this distance" claimed Fester.

All was quiet again. A good 15 minutes passed and not a word was spoken. A comforting quiet, the kind of quite that when reflecting one's past requires. All three were doing just that.

Why on earth would Fester after all these years drag his two long lost buddies up into the woods of British Columbia? What possessed him to track them down? And bring them to a land that was so far removed from the comforts of their own homes?

"So now what do we do Fester, and why on earth do I have to call you that name anyways, not that it doesn't suit you" said Gene. "Haven't seen you since you were 25 back in 1840's and you were just as annoying as these buzzards you call mosquitoes" he barked.

"Just shut up and listen old timer, you can't hear squat if your lips are moving". And so it was quiet again.

Fester had this way about him that could make any man shut up and listen. But it hadn't been that way with Gene and Phil. There was a time when neither one would listen to him. All talk, all reasoning went out the carriage window with those two once Fester introduced him to his little sister. He tried to warn them, prepare them about Penolope. They were persistant, nagged him ruthlessly about wanting to meet up with his little sister.

And so this tale begins. On how 3 school chums from England unite. How each of them connect and unconnect and then reconnect. To forever have the bond of friendship that can endure even the most horrific life experience.

It took forever to get there, it seemed. Fester picked them up from Vancouver's airport and after a light lunch they took a bus up the Fraser Canyon. The scenery itself was enjoyable, but Gene, exhausted from the overnight flight, slept through most of it.

When the bus stopped in Chilliwack, Phil and Fester got out, had a coffee and a smoke, but Fester didn't even wake up.

He was just opening his eyes when they pulled into Ashcroft.

It was a quiet town; they had another lunch in the one and only restaurant open on a Sunday. There was no meat. They'd soon learn that most of the people who lived in Ashcroft were Hari Krishna devotees, and this small restaurant, in particular, catered to them exclusively.

While sitting there sipping herbal tea, wishing for a strong cup of "joe", and contemplating the menu they heard a strange sound. All three men looked up at the same to see a group of Hari Krishna's coming at them beating their tamborines and chanting wildly.

What was the meaning of the chant that was coming from these strange looking bald headed robed men? Were they being cursed or blessed?

The strange looking bald headed robed men were chanting a special tale about a secret fishing place that not only offered wonderful succulent fish but many other miraculous surprises just waiting for them to discover.

What Phil and Fester were really hoping for was for the waitress to bring them some delicious "Smoked Tuna Dip", they had it in many south Florida restaurants before and it was their favorite appetizer.

Mean while Gene is sitting back and wondering to himself why on earth Fester would drag him and Phil all the way into the boonies.

The last time Gene had seen Phil was when they were 25 years old back in the old country of England. When Phil booted Gene in the stomach, and it was all because of Penelope. They should of listened to Fester back then about her and her charms with men. When Gene was able to straighten up after the thumping he recieved from Phil, Phil was gone. Only Fester was there with him now. Standing against the wall with that smug look on his face.

"Didn't I warn you you the dumb bloke"? "But no, the two of you insisted on meeting up with my sister". "Now look what you have done, spoiled our dreams of becoming rich in the diamond fields of Africa".

Fester was fuming mad. For the last 3 years himself, Gene and Phil had saved all they could to travel to Africa and work in the prospering Diamond fields. And now all that money and hard work were thrown away. Because of those 2 goofs. Well fine. He could make something out of his life. He would leave his homeland and travel across the ocean to the new world called America. Gene and Phil were on their own. Fester knew that they would never make ammends after what just transpired, would never be able to look each other in the eye again.

Each of them would be going their seperate ways.
Fester to Canada, to prospect for gold, Phil to Texas to run cattle and Gene....he did end up in Africa.

Penelope did follow one of these lads. Which one of course is obvious. For she could never let her best friend be too far from her sight. Plus now that she was with child and her belly would soon be showing she would not be able to stick around much longer in England.

So Penelope packed her bags and set off with....

So Penelope packed her bags and set off with....nothing more than her single suitcase and hope that running away from the only home she has ever known was going to bring peace and happiness to her and her unborn child. Penelope had no one to confide in, no one to seek counsel with. She made a decision; and she had no idea how this decision was going to change her life forever. Would they even survive the passage to America?

Phil asked about the 'tuna', and was met with a cold response from the waitress.

"We don't eat the flesh of any creature here" she replied.

"Well, how about eggs? Can I get a toasted wes . . ."

"We don't eat eggs either. How about veggie burger? There's a special today . . . "

He settled for French Fries with a soya based gravy, gave his ordered to the waitress and went outside for a smoke.

Phil's mind got lost in a puff of smoke rings and he flashed back to those times...before veggie burgers and soy based gravy...a time of turmoil for him and Penelope. Before they made their separate ways, Phil and Penelope had become lovers. He thought the sun rose and set on her until one day she caught him with Gene and ended up kicking Gene in the stomach during a fight. Here's what happened.......

Here's what happened...... While Phil and Penelope had become lovers, it was apparent that they were both physically attracted to one another. However, Penelope was at the stage where she was attracted to a lot of boys her age and she just couldn't quite make up her mind between Phil or Gene. ....Then it seemed that she had no choice at all. It was made up for her the day of the fight. Then there was no going back.....

She must flee with her brother to the America's To the land that was yet unclaimed. A new world were no one knew of her wild and willy ways. A place where she wouldn't have to look over her shoulder at every moment.

Penelopep and Fester where boarding the fessel that were to take them to this far off land of wild savages and yet unexplored torraines. Filled with high hopes and expectations of what lay in store for them.

Gene on the other hand was licking his wounds wondering how he was gonna get to Africa. He had the means but his heart wasen't in it. For he knew the love of his life was setting sail to leave him forever.

Phil never looked back. Not once. He was gonna ride a horse and mount a beast called a stallion. He went to Texas via the France and spit in the Atlantic ocean while he set his foot on that boat.

Fester laid back in his deck chair and pulled the cover around him. Penelope couldn't sit still. She walked over around the deck oblivious of the cold night air and thought of what it would be like to start over. If only she wasn't traveling with her bloody awful brother. He was going to be a chain around her neck and she knew she would eventually have to be free and wondered,"Why couldn't he just have gone to Africa lilke he had planned?"

Phil was thoughtful as the chanters passed.

"Well, why are they chanting about a 'fishing spot', if they're so all-fired up about bein' veggies?"

"Probably just trying to attract new blood for their ashram", Fester replied, looking kinda' thoughtful himself.

"I'm going to their service on Sunday night; I hear they eat right good at those do's", Phil announced in a decisive manner.

"Watch out! They'll have ya' come back wearin' one of those sets of tulsi beads - Penelope says ya' can't take 'em off or you'll have bad luck. Gotta' leave 'em on for a week, at least" Fester warned.

Well, Fester, as they well knew, was prone to exaggeration, as was that damn fool sister of his. What harm could wearing a set of beads do, anyway?

"I'm gonna' have the poached okra" Fester told the waitress, just so's she'd move along and quit standing there listening to their conversation, more than anything else.

The waitress finished taking their orders as another group of robed individuals came past, chanting and playing tambourines. Fester, Gene and Phil noticed her raise an eyebrow and 'tsk tsk' as she turned away towards the kitchen. It seemed unlikely that she would frown on people who would be supporting the business that supported her. The three friends looked again out the window and at the same instant, froze in their seats, mouths open, eyes wide.
Phil was the first to start breathing again. He quietly said, "It can't be....", exhaling long and slow.
Gene tapped his fingers rapidly on the table. "It's too many years gone by. She wouldn't look like that today...."
Phil became more agitated. "You see the one towards the end of that group? That weren't no baldy headed chanter...full head-a curls...and the way he - no, SHE walked...."
Fester turned soberly towards his mates. "Do the math, boys...do the math"
