I'm sure I don't need to put the usually disclaimers about having friendly discussions/arguments about politics with ya'll. I feel like here we can disagree about stuff like that and still be cool with each other. Also, you don't have to comment (or read the comments) if you don't want to. All that aside, I would be interested in hearing reviews of books about or by the candidates if any of ya'll have read any. -- and/or -- Tell us what you're currently reading and/or what you've recently read. |

What I'm reading this week:
I read about 40 pages of Lisey's Story last week and just have not picked it up again. I'm not sure why since I thought what I read was interesting enough. I'll prolly pick it up again in a bit and breeze through it. Fickle reading preferences of my brain! I just started Jim the Boy with BBs cause I just finished The Devil in the White City, which was last month's pick there. I am hoping and have a feeling that Jim the Boy will be different from what I expect. The Devil in the White City was easier to read (for being a non-fiction) and more interesting that I thought it would be. Overall, I liked the book and enjoyed learning about Chicago and the Fair, neither of which I knew much about before I read the book. I'd be interested in reading a good history of Chicago now. I also picked back up In Death book #6 to finish. I think the fickle brain is in the mood for some light reading currently. Where are the rest of ya'll in the series? I know Merty is prolly already nearly caught up to me and Cindy is prolly close to finishing them all (impressive!). |

Howdy BG!
I'm staying away from the politics. I am half way thru book #4. And I have #5 to jump into this weekend. I just finished The Worst Hard Time, that was a fantastic book and it makes me think what will happen next on such a global scale if we arent' careful with our resources. I'm over half way thru The Historian, and it's the perfect summer book. And for fun, The Beach House by Jane Green.

Hola Merty
Can't say I blame ya at all. LOL I do not talk politics with most of my girl friends cause we are on opposite sides of the political spectrum. I have a copy of book #5 too. Odd. So do you want book #6 when I'm done with it (so long as m doesn't want it yet) or do you have a copy of that one too? Your enjoying The Historian so much makes me glad I picked up a cheap mass market copy when I saw it at Costco. Need to go pop dinner in the oven now. I'm roasting onion, red pepper, zucchini, yellow tomato, and cherry tomatoes with basil, oregano, and S/P which I'm putting over fresh herb and garlic angel hair. BG |

I will be reading Barack Obama's most recent book and probably voting for McCain (since Hil. Clint is not longer on the ballot for President, but if she is nominated for VP maybe I'll vote Democrat, but Barack is to young and inexperienced for me). Experience is important to me.
z ------------------------- Have fun today. Go outside and play! |

BG,
I went to Amazon and picked up 4 In Death books for the price of 3. But thank you for the offer. You always eat so healthy! Enjoy your dinner. We are having some Turkey Sausage, with sauteed onions and zucchine, a spinach salad and that nice multi-grain bread I picked up today. And strawberries.

The Historian worked for me, because I only read 2 chapters at a time. It's just so rich in its writing that I want to take my time and enjoy the story. I shall have it done by the end of the month.

I don't plan on reading anything by/about the presidential candidates or the election. My sister is a politician, I work for politicians and try to keep up w/ local politics. That's enough for me.
I'm going to try to finish The Thrall's Tale by Judith Lindbergh today. It's been a good read in that I know nothing about 10th century Vikings, but it's rather somber. I wouldn't recommend it, but it may make a good discussion book because of the strong women characters. Mar~ "Loved books transcend the categories they come from." |
