One of the book blogs I read is written by a girl who works in publishing at Harper Collins. She had a link on her blog for an email newsletter from Harper Collins on Reading Group Books. I got my first newsletter last week and in it, there was a link to what looks like a complete online version of The Witch of Portobello by Paulo Coelho. I thought I'd posted the info in case any of ya'll are interested in reading the book online.

You’ve likely read The Alchemist. Now, treat yourself to The Witch of Portobello, Coelho’s bestseller from last year, now in paperback.

Anne, thanks for letting us know about the online book. Jill and I read the Alchemist last summer. I will let her know about this.

Thanks Mary Zorro! Let me know if either of ya'll end up reading the book and what you think about it. I remember The Alchemist being quite a popular book. I read one of Coelho's other books and quite enjoyed it.

I noticed one of Isabel Allende's (sp) books as a clue in the Sunday NYT crossword and thanks to you I knew the answer as you've spoken often of her books and her being a favored author of yours.

Yes, we are going to read The Witch of Portobello. Jill picked it up at the airport she was passing through this past weekend. I will probably read it online. We will check in here with you; if you start reading it too, we can discuss it. Are you reading People of the Book with Book Buddies in March?

Hola Mary Zorro!

I'd love to read The Witch of Portobello with Jill and you. The only book I'm definitely planning to read in March so far is EMP and finishing up March, which I'm working on currently. I might reread Jane Eyre but I'm not sure. It is a favorite but I've read it many time (none recently though). I really enjoyed the first Coelho books I read so I'll make TWOP my second book for the month. Will ya'll do a schedule for the book (even a rough one) or just free read it with Ch./pg #s at the top of posts? I haven't done a side read with just a few people yet. I'll prolly read the book online, unless I really don't like that format (I've never read a whole one online before although I'm slowly working though The House of Mirth) or see if I can find a paperback copy at Costco.

I want to read People of the Book but it is a hardcover still. I don't usually buy hardcovers but I saw it at Costco today for $14 so I'm tempted. The library branch by me is stinky (only two small rows of fiction) and the main branch is a while away and has bad parking (downtown city parking situation). My mom and sisters live in another county about the same distance away and the libraries are better there but I'd have to be really diligent about returning books on time. So I don't currently have a library card but I was thinking about getting one so I could try to get the book. I don't know if it will be hard to get that way or not. I'm a bit bitter about the libraries around here as the last two places I've lived have had wonderful systems and I'm a total book junkie so I'm missed that. And it was cheaper!
