Hi, I'm totally new here. I absolutely LOVED Shadow of the Wind. I read it once about two years ago and then again recently for book group. Couldn't put it down (after a while) either time!
I'm ready to discuss at any time! Can't wait.

My book club read this book a few months ago and I was shocked to see that half of our club absolutely loved the book (as I did) and the other half absolutely hated it. There didn't seem to be any middle group. I loved the setting, the mood of the book and the descriptions. The only thing I hated was the fact that this author hadn't written anything else!

I have just started reading this book today and am on chapter 15. So far I am really enjoying it and look forward to discussing it with this group. I'll probably be up all night reading it once I get the kids quieted down for the evening. I should have a lot to say about it within a couple of days!

I have now read through chapter 23. I hope someone posts soon so that I have someone to talk to about the book. So far, no one has posted anything in the last few days. There is so much in this book that is intriguing to me. I am eager to discuss it with others who have a passion for reading as I do. I'll check back tomorrow.

Hi there!

I'm here any time to discuss the book -- I'm having a bit of a time getting through the middle chapters; it might be the migraines I've had lately, but the middle of the book seems a bit more slow and deep than earlier. On the whole, this hasn't been a light read, but it has been quite enjoyable!

Hi. How's the reading going? I'm just starting chapter 32. Today's a gloomy day in Florida so I'm going to sit in the house and read until the kids get home from school. Some of the discussion questions are starting to make a little more sense and the story is starting to come together. I am waiting for a bomb to drop though. I have this feeling that I'm about to be surprised. I'm still completely confused about Nuria and Miquel. Well, I have about an hour and a half left of quiet time so I better make the most of it.

I've finally finished the book. So much tragedy wrapped up with a happy ending! It seems Julian's life was doomed to fail from the start because of lies and secrets of his parents. The shadows created by deceit enveloped his life. Daniel, however, seemed to bring the shadows into the light as he uncovered the lives of people who would have otherwise been forgotten. In the process, he was able to bring light into his own life. I believe that in each of our lives many shadows exist. Most of them are from being unaware of ourselves and those that are closest to us. Some of them are our own avoidance of the truth. These shadows we create affect the lives of everyone around us, especially our children.

Hi everyone!
I'm a brand new member and I'm so excited to find this website because our book club is reading shadow of the wind right now and we're meeting on 8/31 to discuss it.
I'm going to email everyone and have them check out this site. I am not that far into it yet, but I already love his style of writing. It's amazing to me that this is a translation. The language is almost poetic and I find myself reading paragraphs again and again because the words are just so interesting.

If you like books and book clubs check out our book clubs website: www.momsreading.com

I'll write more later!

Hello everyone. Not many people are posting messages lately. I'm finished with the book and would love to hear what others have to say about it. I think what I got most from this book is how you can change your own life but learning from the past. The characters in this book were very well developed and I really felt I knew Daniel personally. And it was impossible to not have an affection for Fermin. He was my favorite character. The women in the novel were not as easy to understand except Nuria through her letter to Daniel. That letter humanized her character and was the key catalyst for a change in Daniel, making it possible for him to realize the depth of his love for Bea.

I hope some of you have some input soon. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi there!

I have enjoyed the book as well, and it hit me the other day that it reminded me of the same feeling I get reading the 'Griffin and Sabine' books; an almost unearthly feeling that permeates the characters and situations.

Lisamarie, I hope we can talk about it soon-- perhaps if we start, others will join in! Would you like me to post the discussion questions, or should we just start talking about it? Big Grin

Hello everyone!

Hi Anne. Pick a subject and we can discuss it. My printer is not working so I can't print up the discussion questions. So guide the way. Hopefully everyone will get involved. That's the fun of it, hearing different points of view. Like, who was everyone's favorite character and why? Who can you most relate to? My favorite character as I wrote before is Fermin. I thought he was a very loveable and mischevious character. I feel I relate to Julian though. The way he felt like all of his characters were part of himself, even the bad ones. We all have our inner demons, I know I do. I also have people in my life who bring out the best in me.

My book group is meeting tonight to discuss this book - I was looking for a discussion guide online and this was the first link I went to and.... Jackpot. I look forward to discussing the book and then sharing some thoughts with you all.

Anne - great guide - really made me think about the parallels and the female characters in a new way.
