Thought I'd start a thread in regard to this book since some of you have read the book last year, would love to hear your thoughts.

I always admired Princess Diana and when she died, I was so shocked and sad and I remember where I was when I heard about her car accident. And the first thing that came to mind was, why wasn't she better protected? I thought she would have more people around her and not be rushed off into a speeding Mercedes with a drunk driver!!!

I read two biographies on Diana shortly after she died and I'm interested to know if this book will shed more light on her life.

Not only was she beautiful but she was so dedicated in helping others, and to me, she seemed to be an unhappy person that had to grow up in the spotlight and worse be in an unhappy marriage.

All her life, she had a very pampered life I think, and this new boyfriend had alot of cash to keep her happy but at what price?

Well, let me go read some more of this book and come back with my thoughts...

Hi Jan,

I'm only in the beginning of the book in regard to Diana's family, first of all, her family dates back to the 13th century, amazing!
Her Mother for whatever reason cheated on her Dad, that must have been so difficult for the children, to see their mother leave and then she lost custody to them. They hated their Step Mother, and Diana seemed to know how to play games and play with people's minds to creat drama at such an early age, and then, her fantasy with romance novels. Sounds like a set up for a big letdown in regard to marrying Prince Charles.
And I find it interesting that Camilla has the same resemblance as Charles' nanny. Hmmm. Makes one think, doesn't it?
This book is just an amazing read....I can't wait to get back to it.

Hi Merty

I was a big Diana watcher. I watched her wedding on TV, like most of the rest of the world and she just was the picture of the "happily ever after" concept. I enjoyed reading the book but it gave me a very different impression of her than I had prior to reading it. Andrew Morton seemed to make her every move seem deceitful and conniving. I'm sure there's some truth to that but another author may have portrayed the same information with a different slant.

Hi Lori,

I have not read Andrew Morton's book on Diana. I don't think, I will have to go back and see which 2 Bio's I read on Diana in the past.

This book is by Tina Brown, and it has so many interesting facts.

I remember watching her wedding at work, I was working in Germany, and the wedding was on TV in the store I worked in, and everybody stopped what they were doing to watch! Was it not fairytale like? Certainly not the marriage though.

Ooops Merty

Mixed up my authors...it was the Chronicles that I was talking about though. I'm not sure if it was just my take on things as I was reading but I felt that she wasn't portrayed in the best light. I always loved the way she "bucked the system" and people seemed to just love that in her...a streak of independence with a big helping heart.

I do like how Ms. Brown writes about Diana's gift in helping others such as the time she went to the hospital (page 72) and danced with the person in the wheelchair. Diana had the ability to make suffering people feel comfortable.

I don't have many chapters left but boy has book opened my eyes in how Diana's life was really like. So much unhappiness, she must have felt so stuck. But would I loved most about Diana is how she radiated this compassion for people who were suffering.
I now want to read Diana's book In Her Own Words by Andrew Morton.

I finally finished this big fat book but boy, did it keep me hooked throughout and it answered all my questions that I had in regard to what happened to Princess Diana's family, friends, lovers and people close to her. Very informative book. There has been no public figure like Princess Diana since her passing as wonderful and compassionate as she was. I found Princess Diana to be brave and normal as she wasn't perfect and she wasn't afraid to come forth in regard to her unhappy marriage.
