Several of us are reading A New Earth with Oprah and Tolle. We will be writing our reflections here as we read and discuss our new enlightenment. Please join us if you are reading the book.

*"What a liberation to realize that the 'voice in my head' is not who I am . . . Who am I then? . . . The one who sees that."
~Eckhart Tolle*

Quotes from A New Earth

"The only thing that ultimately matters is this: Can I sense my essential Beingness, the I Am, in the background of my life at all times" Tolle

I am finding The New Earth to be straighforward and very immediate in application to my own frame of reference, my own life. I would say it is spiritual psychology, not philosophy. There are numerous Christian references, Bible quotes, and explanations related to psychology of the self. It seems vey much based on Carl Jung's work. I think the sessions with Oprah and Tolle will be very helpful. My daughter is a therapist for children and has a few adult clients. I think she will be able to use this in her work with adults.

I have finished Ch. 3 and I can see I have a lot of opening myself to change in order to transcend the ego!! As I am learning about The New Earth, I am reading about the American Transcendalists for background for our Someday book, March. These two movements are so much alike! I wonder if they will point this out in the webinar??

There are discussion questions for the book from Reading Group Guides. You can find them if you do a search. As far as being uncomfortable goes, I don't think we have to answer the questions here online, but I do think it will be a good idea to keep a 'new earth journal' to write our reflections in as we read the book. If we want to go deeper into spirituality through reading this book, I don't think it will do us much good just to read without reflection.

Discuss why you decided to read this book and seek spiritual awakening.

What led you to want it?

Do you think you were already on the path when you began reading A New Earth?

How did the book help you with your enlightenment?

I have found that lately I am bored! My spirit has grown stale. I need to awaken myself to a new earth and a new heaven. When I saw that Oprah and Tolle were going to offer this course, I thought it would be a good idea for me to give it a go.

I really think that most of what Oprah has offered us for free through her Oprah.com has been very worthwhile and has encouraged us to become new beings. Yes, I think I have been on this path for a long, long time and I don't think it will end in my lifetime...I will continue for eternity. We'll see what develops as we study together.

Chapter 4 today. I found the concept of the collective ego of groups, nations, tribes, gangs to be very interesting. I wonder how this new consciousness will inform the behavior of the violent, warring groups in our world....

Favorite from Chapter 2 :

"Natives of North America found owndership of land an incomprehensible concept.
And so they lost it when the Europeans made them sign pieces of paper that were equally incomprehensible to them."
