Hi and welcome Vicki and Amy V! Glad you found the way here. Hopefully the rest of our group will wander in soon. We will begin discussion of the November selection: "Julie and Julia" by Julie Powell on Monday, November 6. I will begin by posting the first discussion question and we will go from there! Hope this works for the Coffee Club group. Thanks for participating!

One of the questions posed in the back of the book is this: Did Julie's exploits in her tiny kitchen make you want to cook? This is a good question to start the discussion of a book about cooking, don't you think? So, let's hear it, ladies... as Julie was dicing and slicing and rendering, etc. did it make you itch to haul out the Cuisinart and the non-stick teflon?

Yes it made me want to cook.. and I did.. it also made me want to clean my kitchen...and I did... She always talked about the eggs dripping off the counter, or flour all over the place.. I could picture a small kitchen all cluttered with dirty dishes, at one time she had no water... so dishes for days were piled up. That made me ashamed of my self. I have a large kitchen and feel bad that I can not seem to keep things from finding a home on my counter top... Now the whole snack bar has my laptop, scanner printer copier, and digital camera dock, and special printer for my dig. camera... This kind of equiptment shouldnt be in a kitchen, should it?

I really liked the book and hope the ladies who didnt get to read it will read all these comments and decide to read it.

Hi Ladies! I found the board and just wanted to post a note that I made it here. Unfortunately, I didn't read the book, but I did hear about her blog when she was first creating it. I think it was featured on CBS News or some other network. What do you think of the prevalence of blogs and how some people are turning their blogging in to book deals? It seems like almost anyone can get their book published nowadays. Is this a good thing or a bad thing in your opinion? I look forward to reading your thoughts.

Stacey!!! Glad you made it here! I know my reply will probably not be a popular one, but personally I think the blog into book deal is not always a good thing. I think it makes it too easy to put out drivel on the market and call it a novel. But then if the public didn't plunk out the money to buy said drivel, maybe there wouldn't be so much out there? LOL Still, I have to say I did enjoy the excerpts from Julie's blog included in her book. It added (dare I say it?) 'seasoning' to the story overall.
Once you read the book, Stacey, I would love to hear your opinion of it, also! Thanks for taking part in the board here!
